Day Hike

4th-12th

In this introduction to modern hiking ethics, students learn eco-responsible philosophies such as “Leave No Trace.” Each school selects their focus for a hike, such as visiting our Nature Center, shortened versions of our Forest Ecology and Outdoor Skills classes, birding or one of our many other fun-filled options.

What’s Covered

With an experienced instructor as their guide, students venture out on one of Pali’s many scenic trails, enjoying the sights, sounds, smells, textures and even tastes that the San Bernardino National Forest has to offer. Hikes can range from relatively flat and moderately strenuous to steeper and more rigorous, depending on the requests of the group.

Lessons & Activities

Hiking

Students venture out on one of Pali’s many scenic trails, periodically stopping to rest, hydrate and experience the forest in new ways.

Leave No Trace

While on their hike, students learn the principles of Leave No Trace, an ethical guide to hiking, backpacking and camping. They practice abiding by these guidelines, such as planning ahead & preparing for their hike, staying on designated trails and disposing of trash in appropriate receptacles.

Various/Custom

Pali instructors add their own flare to each hike, incorporating nature games, forest ecology, art in nature or a visit to the reptiles in the Nature Center as part of their trek.
